What you can create using Icograms Designer

Level: Advanced
Topic: School Map. School Layout
Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to design a digital map of their school using Icograms Designer.
Elements: Roads, buildings, trees, vehicles, people

Introduction
Schools are places where students learn, play, and interact. A well-organized school layout includes buildings, playgrounds, parking areas, and green spaces to make it functional and welcoming. We will use Icograms Designer to create a digital map of a school by arranging different objects to represent the real layout or an imaginary school design.

Step-by-Step Activity

Step 1: Open Icograms Designer
Go to Icograms Designer

Step 2: Adding School Buildings
Select "Buildings" palette. Place the main school building, classrooms, gym, cafeteria, and other important structures.
Adjust the size and position to match the layout of your school.

Step 3: Creating Roads and Pathways
Select "Roads" palette to add:
Main entrance roads for cars and buses.
Sidewalks and paths for students to walk between buildings.

Step 4: Adding Playgrounds and Sports Areas
Select "Events" palette to add Playgrounds for students to play.
Select "Sports" palette to add Sports fields for soccer, basketball, or other activities.
Add benches and trees for shaded resting areas.

Step 5: Placing Vehicles
Select "Transport" palette to add:
School buses in the parking or drop-off area.
Cars in the parking lot.
Bicycles near the bike racks.

Step 6: Placing People
Select "People" palette to add:
Students walking in hallways or playing outside.
Teachers in classrooms or supervising outdoors.
Staff members near the entrance, cafeteria, or office.

Final Touches & Review
Students check their school map to ensure it is organized and easy to understand. Encourage students to label important areas (e.g., "Library," "Gym"). Allow students to present their school map to a partner or the class.

Designing the Indoor Layout of the School
After creating the outdoor school layout, students can focus on designing the indoor layout of their school buildings. A well-planned indoor space helps students and teachers move easily between classrooms, offices, and common areas.

By designing both the outdoor and indoor layout, students will have a complete and detailed school map that represents real-life spaces. Once finished, they can review their work, make improvements, and present their designs to the class.
